In a continuing effort to update the internal IT infrastructure of a key client, Intertech partnered with Marnoble Computers to implement e-mail, calendaring, web server, and Internet services for a law firm migrating away from a third-party ISP.
Implementing the Microsoft solution will allow the firm to reduce recurring IT expenses for Internet services and to improve the quality of service provided to attorneys and clients alike. Intertech also developed custom data migration tools to harvest up to eight years of each attorney's schedule from an obsolete calendaring system and to import the data into each attorney's Outlook 2002 calendar. This effort will also serve as the foundation for the public web site.
In an effort to update the internal networking and server environment of a major client, Intertech teamed with local computer sales and service experts Marnoble Computer Inc. to update an aging NetWare server solution. The final infrastructure solution will allow the law firm to be technologically self-sufficient with internally hosted mail and web servers and superior Internet access.
A long time Intertech partner in the development, sales and support of SMS, Buck Consultants delivers another set of widely sought after advances to its flagship salary management system product. The most notable feature of this version is the incentive-based compensation made possible with a very powerful formula builder. The formula builder allows plan administrators to create simple or complex formulas with which to generate salary adjustments or bonuses. Also included are additional reports, performance improvements, and salary planning process modifications.
Richard Brown, a nationally recognized performer, teacher, businessman, and, most recently, leader of one of Houston's most successful dance bands and society orchestras, approached Intertech to provide much-needed improvements to his existing web site, including structural and content updates. Intertech implemented several approaches to multi-media serving to further promote his excellent swing orchestra musical CDs.
In its ongoing partnership with Buck Consultants to expand the user base of SMS, Intertech extended the database layers of SMS to integrate Microsoft SQL Server functionality. With this release, SMS now fully supports Sybase SQL Anywhere Studio 7.x, Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition, and Microsoft SQL Server 2000.
Donald D. Clayton was interviewed by Jack Vaughn of Application Development Trends magazine on the use of UML during modeling, especially using Use-Cases during analysis (UML Hits the Streets). Part of the article contains an interesting commentary on traditional OOAD versus "Extreme Programming" a new version of RAD now promoted as a way to overcome traditional analysis paralysis.
Intertech was selected by Sybase, Inc. to revise its entire PowerDesigner curriculum for the latest version of its highly recognized enterprise modeling tool. PowerDesigner is now the fastest growing design tool in the modeling space, and Intertech has worked heavily with Sybase, Inc. on the feature set and capabilities of this exciting tool. The courses revised included the 3-day Data Modeling with PowerDesigner course, and one of its newest courses: Object-Oriented Modeling Using PowerDesigner. The courses are intended for IT professionals and enterprise developers of corporate portals. The three-day course emphasizes more traditional Information Engineering (IE) approaches to enterprise-wide data management, while the two-day class incorporates the latest UML design techniques, coupled with an intuitive design methodology, to lead system analysts in the proper design of object-oriented systems developed in PowerBuilder or Java.

Intertech Consulting has been selected to participate with Methods Technology Solutions, Inc. of Louisiana to aid in the implementation of a large environmental tracking system for the State of Louisiana. The system, when operational, will help Louisiana state officials track environmental information and report data to the US Environmental Protection Agency.
Donald D. Clayton, President and founder of Intertech Consulting, has been selected by Sybase as a featured speaker at its TechWave user conference in Orlando, FL. this September. Mr. Clayton will present on effective design strategies for object-oriented systems development. The TechWave session is titled Best Practices in Object-Oriented Modeling with PowerDesigner. The TechWave conference session number is IA330. Last year at TechWave, Mr. Clayton presented a four-day discussion of effective process management for software development managers.
Intertech Consulting was selected by the Buck Consultants, a leading compensation and benefits consulting firm, to develop its next generation internet-enabled Salary Planning module. The purpose of the Salary Planning tool is to effectively manage salaries within an organization, and manage pay delivery by modeling merit adjustments, across the board, and other pay adjustments to groups of employees. Employees slated for promotion during the Salary Plan period can also be identified, and can be processed separately from the general employee population. The tool gives managers access to the salary information of direct reports, and allows managers to participate in the salary planning review and approval process.

Intertech Consulting was selected by the Texas Children's Hospital for the development of the StopAsthma system, used by doctors in a clinical setting to record children's asthma symptoms. Incorporating an expert-rules based classification system, StopAsthma records a patient's symptoms and reaction to various therapies. Eventually, the data collected will be used to evaluate the efficacy of various asthma treatments.
